The newel post base is made from a 4" beam with two decorative layers and the ball rests on those two layers. The ball was hand carved, not turned on a lathe. Carved from American chestnut, Peter chose not to show the wood grain, which in not typical of his technique but the results are an icy snow texture that looks great. (I know how it was done but I'm sworn to secrecy!) The base is carved smooth with "SNOW" stenciled around front and back. Snowman arms and broom made from copper wire and epoxy. A peaceful look adorns this beautifully carved Cardinal and the expression in its eyes are soft and warm. Hand carved from American chestnut this red bird is perched comfortably on an old fence post. I want to point out that the post is not level. It angles very slightly and that's the way Peter intended it to be! The wood grain is awesome,with some visible wormholes and slight natural cracks in the wood. The fence post has a crackle paint finish and the berries and stems are made from copper by the artist.

With the look of shyness, this beautiful blackbird offers a single rose to someone he admires, hoping she accepts! The humble expression on this blackbird's face is incredible. Nestled on top of an old crock made entirely from American chestnut. There is a large natural crack in the wood used for the crock, Pete chose to carve around it as he says it adds to the character of the wood! The finish on the crock is great, looks like glazed earthenware. The rose is hand made from copper wire and mesh, thorns included! Blackbird collectors will love this one!

This bunny is crazy cute and leave it up to Peter to portray some down time for the busiest bunny of the season! Fast asleep in a beautifully carved basket, the woven bands are each painstakingly carved out by hand. I think he was going for the Longaberger look with this one! The basket handle is braided copper for sturdiness, but not intended to be used to pick up the carving. The chestnut wood grain in both the bunny and the basket just flows and is clearly visible through the paint. The expression of sleepiness on the face of this bunny is just adorable, with its head being supported by an egg for a pillow and resting in a bed of green grass. The grass is made from copper, each individual piece is hand cut! Very tedious work! A great one to add to your bunny collection!!

Hog lovers this weathervane has to be yours! Carved from American chestnut with an aged patina finish and is just loaded with woodgrain. This carving is a wall mount and for the ease of shipping the hog can be removed from the bottom portion of the weathervane. There are 2 decorative brass screws that hold it together. I would like to mention that the weathervane shows lighter in color in the photos, its actually a bit darker, has a nice medium antique finish.
